The Week Before Spring Break

March 30 - April 3, 2015  The Week Before Spring Break...

In The Guidance Office

The week before our Spring Break was the final week of university notifications for our seniors at Kyiv International School.  Many of them had already been accepted to some great schools, but those students who had applied to Ivy League schools in the U.S. and other schools with very selective admissions requirements were still waiting.  As their guidance counselor, I celebrate the acceptances and sympathize with the disappointments. Overall, I am very excited about the opportunities the Class of 2015 has in front of them.  They still have a couple of weeks to make their final decisions, and for some of them, this process is more painstaking than waiting for the universities to respond!  Sometimes, too many choices is not necessarily a good thing.

At Mr. Richard's Birthday Party

Mr. Richard is a fifth grade teacher at KIS.  He threw himself a "Spirit of 76" birthday party for, you guessed it, his 76th birthday!!
This is just one of many pictures taken with women at his side while he was cutting the cake.  Yes, there were men at the party, too.

Learning to Decorate Ukrainian Easter Eggs

After school on the Friday afternoon before spring break started there was an egg painting class offered at school.  Those of us who paid a small fee to attend were guided by a couple dressed in traditional costume on the technique of decorating eggs Ukrainian style.  It is a tedious process involving heat and wax and a steady hand.  I wasn't unhappy with my result, but I am planning to try it again next year and I hope to see some improvement.
